Stories of Calm Visualization - The Waterfall

Updated: Jul 28, 2018

I was sitting on front porch swing one hot, muggy, summer afternoon.

Since the air was heavy and still, I was hopeful that the motion of the swing rocking back and forth would create perhaps an illusion of a little breeze.

This breeze would brush gently against my face and flow down over my body until it tickled the tips of my toes.

But, it was only an illusion. As soon as the rocking and swaying would stop the air dead still with a heavy heavy stillness.

As I was sitting there I noticed that in all the stillness of the air there was a slight sound. A sound almost like a hum or a whistle. And it sounded very inviting. It seemed to be coming from a group of trees in the woods about a half a mile away.

As I sat there listening I was intrigued by what could be making this sound.

I slid off the swing, slipped on my shoes and headed for the woods.

As I walked through the grove of trees I noticed that the ground around me was soft and moist. The ground was moist from the summer humidity but also from the gentle mist that seemed to envelope the area.

The path was lined with rocks and moss which gave a kind of cushion my step. I followed this path until it came to a small small clearing. In this clearing I could see a mist rising up from the ground. It was beautiful and light blue. It was then that I noticed the smell of the mist. It was the smell of freshness, fresh and clean. Not the heavy humid air smell. As I walked closer I noticed up above on the ridge was a small trickle of water. As I watched the trickle grew into a majestic waterfall. The water flowed gently from rock to ledge to rock creating the mist and the inviting sound.

As I stood directly under the water I felt peaceful and relaxed. It was as if this moment was just for me. I felt God’s presence in the nature that surrounded me. This place will be in my mind to return to when I need to feel calm.
