Floating Leaf
By Sandy McCann
Take a few cleansing breathes and you close your eyes and feel the gentle, warm weight of the blanket help relax each muscle.
Now, Visualize yourself resting beside a small trickling stream. You notice a small leaf the shape of a feather float down from the tree above and rest on the top of the water.
As the water flows with a gentle current, the leaf seems to scurry about darting from side to side. You notice that the leaf is held and supported by the water underneath it. The leaf top stays dry as it lightly floats over the many little stones and rocks it encounters in its path.
The water I think represents all the things that hold us up, support us in many ways. These can be our faith, our family, friends and all the positive thoughts and images that help us float and make our way through life.
The pebbles and rocks represent all troubles and worrisome thoughts that seem to take our energy away. But the water supporting us allows us float and move past all those thoughts that do not serve us.
Let the water support you like the leaf and allow you to freely move sometimes tilting to the one shore and sometimes to the other. Sometimes we even will spin and face backwards for a time but always moving forward. Feel the warm sun like the leaf as it gently rocks back and forth.
Let this be an invitation to breathe, relax and let God’s love, and all those around you, support you like the water and lift you up.
