As you slip into bed your mind is filled with all the troublesome thoughts of day you leave behind. You struggle to relinquish your mind to the task at hand; a peaceful, restful sleep.
As you notice your breathing you find it helps to fully inhale then slowly exhale letting the air sigh as it leaves your body. It does feel refreshing to exhale all the old air and breathe in new. You wish your worries would do the same.
The sheets that surround you feel soft and fresh. You can smell the scent of the fabric softener. This makes you smile a little. You then pull up over the sheets a luxurious velveteen light blanket. It seems to float as you fluff it over your sheets and softly land on your body. You can feel the light warmth equally on every part of your body. From the tips of your toes, thighs, stomach, and arms to your shoulders. You see the covers rise and fall as you practice deep breathing.
You mind is starting to slow down. Still random thoughts and worries flit from nowhere like fireflies in the evening twilight.
You feel a soft wisp of a breeze brush your face.
Reaching for the soft, down comforter you slowly pull it up completing your bedding for the night. Your thoughts then drift. You think of the thousands of feathers that are used to create such a wonderful comforter. Even though each feather weighs little, the combined warmth that they create is amazing.
You still struggle with sleep until you realize that God's Grace and Peace is like the blanket comforter you are under. He wraps you in his Love and is always there for you. He is our Comforter. You can picture in your mind giving to God all your worries, as you feel the warmth of the covers.
"Be still, and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10
